        The neighbourhood: Fernwood

One of Victoria's oldest, most colourful neighbourhoods, right outside your door.

๐ŸŽญ Fernwood Square & the Belfry

The building sits steps from Fernwood Square, the village heart at Fernwood Rd and Gladstone Ave. The landmark steeple across the way is the Belfry Theatre, a professional theatre company in a restored 1890s heritage church. The square used to be the end of the old Spring Ridge streetcar line, and it's still where the neighbourhood meets.

        โ˜• Local character

Heritage brick and Victorian-era homes. Little June in the 1910 Parfitt Building, the Fernwood Inn's patio, and neighbourhood coffee from Fernwood Coffee's Parsonage Cafe. Fernwood is known for its artistic, tight-knit community.

        ๐ŸšŒ Transit Score

Routes 22 and 19 stop about 100 m away. Routes 2, 5, 27 and 28 are within about 400 m, so downtown, Hillside Centre and James Bay are all easy to reach. Walk Score rates it a "Walker's Paradise": daily errands don't require a car.

        ๐ŸŒŠ Parks & the water

Small neighbourhood parks are close by, and Ross Bay and the Dallas Road waterfront are a short bike ride south (about 15 min).
